About me

Hi there! My name is Ellie Kuznetsova. In media and publications, you’ll mostly see my legal name, Elizaveta Kuznetsova [yeh-lee-zah-VYEH-tah kooz-NYET-soh-vah], but in casual contexts, people usually refer to me as “Ellie”. As a rule of thumb, when in doubt (and we’re not talking legal documents), use Ellie — you can’t go wrong with that.

I received a BA in Linguistics from the Department of Foreign Languages at Pushkin Leningrad State University, followed by an MA in Applied Linguistics and Teaching English as a Second Language from the English Department at Northern Arizona University. My bachelor's program was focused on interpretation and translation studies. During my MA, I engaged in research on corpus linguistics, educational technology, and second language writing; I worked with instructor feedback and English composition research, looking into higher and lower order concerns in instructor comments and student–instructor rapport building. We're in the process of finalizing publication of the Writing Feedback Corpus (WFC) related to the instructor feedback research.

I am finishing my MS in Computational Social Science at UC San Diego, combining my interests in linguistics, data, and language models. My research focuses on bilingualism, code-switching, natural language processing, corpus linguistics, and second language acquisition. I am currently working on code-switched minimal pairs for LLM evaluation, sentence embeddings analysis of Spanish-English tangrams corpus, and multilingual keyword search for low-resource languages. You can reach me at ye dot s dot kuznetsova at gmail dot com. Some of my work can also be found on my GitHub.
